ABOUT BREENA

Breena is a licensed and certified Speech-Language Pathologist in the state of California and an active member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). She is also a Certified Orofacial Myologist through the International Association of Orofacial Myology (iaom.org). With over 26 years of experience serving San Diego County, Breena has provided therapy across diverse clinical settings, including Rady Children’s Hospital, Poway Unified School District, San Diego Unified School District, and private practice.

Breena brings a distinctive perspective to myofunctional therapy by combining her extensive education and training in speech language pathology with her myofunctional training.  This multidisciplinary background allows her to offer a comprehensive and unique approach to treatment. Her dual expertise enables her to create meaningful, lasting changes that impact not just how someone speaks or breathes, but also how they live their life. She works closely and compassionately with families, meeting individuals exactly where they are, helping them take tangible steps forward—building stronger breathers, stronger voices, and stronger lives. Breena is deeply committed to making a difference that extends far beyond therapy sessions, empowering individuals with confidence and resilience.

She earned her Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders, graduating with honors from The University of Redlands in 1998. Over the years, Breena has completed extensive training in orofacial myofunctional disorders, particularly related to sleep-disordered breathing, habit elimination, orthodontics, and orofacial growth. She is a Certified Myo Munchee Provider (myomunchee.com) and works with adults, adolescents, and children to optimize oral rest posture and function—supporting healthy facial development, dental occlusion, speech and articulation, appropriate swallowing patterns, and proper breathing.

Breena brings clinical expertise in evaluating and treating various childhood speech and language disorders, including autism spectrum disorders, articulation and phonological disorders, language delays/disorders, and feeding disorders. She is trained and certified in specialized methodologies such as TalkTools Oral Placement Therapy (talktools.com), PROMPT Therapy, and The Kaufman Speech to Language Protocol, targeting children with apraxia and other motor speech planning impairments.

Her work with children with Autism Spectrum Disorders is bolstered by training in a wide array of evidence-based approaches, including PECS, TEACCH, SCERTS, DIR/Floortime, Social Stories, visual supports, sensory-based techniques, and Michelle Garcia Winner’s Social Thinking® and Flexible Thinking programs (socialthinking.com).

Breena integrates sound-based therapeutic tools into her treatment sessions, including Integrated Listening System (iLs) and Safe & Sound Protocol (unyte.com), Therapeutic Listening (vitalinks.com), and Forbrain (forbrain.com).

As one of the first Speech-Language Pathologists in California trained in The Hanen Program: More Than Words (hanen.org), Breena pioneered securing funding through the San Diego Regional Center in 2004. She was also the first SLP in San Diego to implement The Hanen Program: TalkAbility, offering parent education for verbal children with social-pragmatic disorders.

A graduate of the Myo Mastermind program at The Breathe Institute (thebreatheinstitute.com), Breena has completed over 90 hours of continuing education in myofunctional therapy. Her dedication to lifelong learning was recognized when she received the 2024 Award for Continuing Education (ACE) from ASHA—a national honor for professionals demonstrating exceptional commitment to professional development.

Breena remains passionate about delivering high-quality, evidence-based therapy that is engaging, educational, and effective. Rooted in compassion and collaboration, she emphasizes the critical importance of family and caregiver involvement throughout the therapeutic journey. Breena has owned and operated her private practice for over 20 years, providing complimentary billing for patients with PPO insurance and serving as a San Diego Regional Center Vendor.
